Douglas Laboratories Selenium Plus Vitamin E is one of the most important antioxidant nutrients and is valuable in the cell membranes where it traps free radicals preventing oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids. Vitamin C has numerous functions. It is involved in the formation of all connective tissues and the biosynthesis of carnitine, serotonin, and some neurotransmitters like norepinephrine. It is a powerful, water soluble antioxidant that provide free radical protection for the eyes, lungs, immune system, and blood. Selenium is a cofactor to about 10 selenoproteins in the body, the most important of which is glutathione peroxidase which uses glutathione to reduce hydrogen peroxide resulting in protection for plasma and cells from free radical damage.
