HCl ProZyme Vs DuoZyme Vs DGT

We recently received an excellent question about what is the difference between HCl ProZyme, DuoZyme and DGT. I will jump to the conclusion first and explain in more detail below. Which one or combination of digestive aids that works best for you will take some trial and error and trial and success. If you are gluten sensitive, you will want to add DGT to your choice of HCl ProZyme or DuoZyme. HCl ProZyme is very effective but is a little harsher than DuoZyme. The Betaine HCl might cause a temporary stomach upset (5 or 10 minutes) whereas DuoZyme doesn’t tend to do that. After that few minutes though, HCl ProZyme seems to calm the system down a little better in the long run. If you have extra sensibilities, you might want to use the milder DuoZyme for several weeks to help your body get to a better state and then slowly transition to HCl ProZyme.

DGT has the best combination of enzymes in my opinion because they are not animal but plant derived. In this case the plant is a type of fungus called Aspergillus. Aspergillus has the ability to breakdown anything you will run into and the enzymes used aren’t so pH sensitive as the animal-based types. These plant enzymes are also far more effective at breaking down chemically resistant cell walls and plant storage proteins (gluten) than those found in HCl ProZyme or DuoZyme.

Our digestive system's job is to reorganize proteins, fats and carbohydrates into their human forms. In order to do this, the assembly line brings long chain products from our dietary intake to the stomach and small intestine. The mechanical process of chewing begins the process and the salivary glands secrete some enzymes that begin breaking down these large molecules. Most of the work is done in the stomach and small intestine most of that is by enzyme action in a tightly controlled pH environment. Each enzyme produced works best in a small pH or acid/base range.

Enzymes are essential chemical facilitators meaning that they are necessary for the breakdown of these proteins, fats and carbohydrates at a decent speed. We don’t have days to get this job done but just a few hours and the enzymes make that possible.

Because of age or as the result of some genetic conditions, it is common to be lacking in the enzymes and the ability to properly control the pH needed to digest our food in a speedy fashion. This decreased efficiency will most likely have not obvious signs or symptoms at first. As time goes on things will begin to go wrong as everything else depends on the ability to properly digest food. This condition will eventually aggravate every other thing going haywire in the overall physiology.

Bright people have been working on ways to increase the body’s digestion abilities. Supplements can be a huge help. A couple of the supplements we carry because we find them to be helpful in many cases are HCl ProZyme by Apex Energetics and DuoZyme by Karuna. We will talk about Theramedix DGT a little later.

HCl ProZyme and DuoZyme are similar products in that they work to help control pH with the addition of hydrochloric acid. They take a different approach to that, however. HCl Prozyme uses an old standby, Betaine HCl and DuoZyme uses a product that is a result of updated thinking and uses Glutamic Acid HCl instead.

From there, DuoZyme takes a more direct path and includes the target enzymes to supplement the body’s own enzyme production. HCl ProZyme adds some of the same enzymes but also adds many different herbs that have been shown to support the digestion process.

Which one is better? That depends on what your particular needs are. Most people find they can take several DuoZyme with no discomfort. If you take too many HCl ProZyme’s, you might notice a reaction from the Betaine HCl which seems to be a little harsher in its action than the Glutamic Acid HCl counterpart. As mentioned earlier, the Betaine HCl is very effective over time but you probably won’t be able to take as much of it. If you are having a lot of acid reflux, eventually the HCl ProZyme might be the best choice but you may need weeks or months of DuoZyme to get there.

I have included Theramedix DGT in this conversation because their thinking is different than that of the bio designers of Karuna or Apex. They use the fact that a fungus has the ability to breakdown the plant or animal tissue they are sitting on completely. I don’t think there is anything they can’t breakdown including cell walls and the extremely tough plant glycoprotein storage proteins. Storage proteins of plants have to be super resistant to breakdown and therefore spoilage otherwise the seeds would perish in a few days and be useless for plant propagation. The human digestive tract is not very good at breaking down these storage proteins. In fact birds aren’t really good at this either as they end up being seed transport agents. Because these proteins are so digestion resistant, most if not all people will develop some level of antibody response to these proteins. When this antibody response causes an antibody cascade effect leading to other antibody systems being involved you have gluten sensitivity and/or celiac disease.

DGT digestion support contains some of these pH tolerant and super effective protein, cellulose, fat and carbohydrate breakdown enzymes that aren’t available in other products.

Whether you prefer the Apex or the Karuna version, you will want to add the Theramedix DGT enzymes as well to optimize the digestive process and thereby increase your overall health over time.

I am including the ingredients of each of the products below so you don’t have to page back and forth between them to compare.
