I'm a 50-year-old female and was just first diagnosed with sibo last week. I am currently on my 11th day of a 28 day cycle of  two different kinds of antibiotics. Can I drink this product while taking antibiotics?
1 Answer
Generally the best approach is to let the antibiotics do their work and then see how you are doing. If you are still having issues you can add the Physicians Elemental plan. This has been helpful for many of our clients.

What gives this the carbohydrates? I figured if there was no dextrose, the carbs would be lower.
1 Answer
Looks like tapioca maltodextrin is the carbohydrate source. Tapioca maltodextrin is a more complex carbohydrate and is not classified as a sugar from what I was able to learn from some research. Unlike sugars, it can encapsulate oils and hold on to them until it comes into contact with water so the powder is stable until you are ready to use it. It appears to be well tolerated by people needing a product such as Physician's Elemental.

Does dextrose free elemental diet contain stevia? If traveling and hard to eat properly can this be taken 2 x day?
1 Answer
No it does not. It uses tapioca maltodextrin for sweetener. And you could drink it twice a day while traveling but you would want to increase the dose to make sure you got the right caloric value.

Effective!
I expected this to taste terrible so was pleasantly surprised. It's not the tastiest, but not the worst either. After a few days, I actually kind of started liking it. And, most importantly, it helped my SIBO quite a bit. Note, I'm reviewing the dextrose free formula. I really didn't care for the regular formula -- far too sweet. I returned it. And a shout out to Oviatmin for taking unused portion back and giving me a store credit. Customer service here is awesome so I wouldn't buy this anywhere else!

Pleasant tasting and easy to digest
I started this along with Nestle's Vivonex and the powder is the same price per calorie but much easier on the taste buds! The Vivonex I suspect is made with malodextrin from potatoes and starches in the Physician's is tapioca so is naturally much sweeter. In fact, it's very sweet and had to make sure I broke up consumption by a couple hours as the first time I had an episode of hypoglycemia after 500-550 calories of it.

Otherwise it's very easy to mix with water in my Blender bottle and goes down gently. Will order again when I need it.
ProsTaste easy to stomach Easy to mix in water or other liquids with shaker
ConsVery sweet from tapioca

good taste and stomach feels great
I have to say I really was afraid of what the elemental diet would taste like, however I like it a lot. Plus my stomach does not hurt. The flavor is a type of vanilla and I really look forward to drinking it.

For me, very good investment.

Ovitaminpro was excellent and got my product to me.quickly too. Thank you

Good Product but not Tolerated by Some
I was using this product to help with SIBO. I have an inherited form of sucrase/isomaltase deficiency and did not realize how poor my starch digestion was until I tried this product. After two half scoops of this formula (one in the evening and one in the morning) I became very sick to my stomach and threw up. I'm sure it was the tapioca maltodextrin in the product, because I have never had problems with amino acids, MCT oil, or vitamins in the past. I am bummed that I can't use this product, but it did confirm my starch intolerance. I may try again with a dextrose formula.
Merchant Response:You can call us for a return label. We can refund the amount you spent on it. I'm sorry you had this reaction. You might do better with the dextrose free. But it also has the tapioca in it.

A good elemental supplement
I used this elemental formula to try to treat SIBO. As someone with multiple allergies the other options weren't open for me. I had tried sample packets of this and the one with dextrose. I did not tolerate the one with dextrose so was glad for this option. I was able to use this as directed with minimal issues. It didn't even taste that bad and kept me feeling satisfied.

Taste is very palatable
Ive done so much research over the years on SIBO and its come down to the elemental diet.

I tried antibiotics first for 4 wks and THEN my doc sent me for SIBO test cuz I wasnt improving and it tested positive AFTER the treatment for SIBO-methane;

He wanted me to try another round of antibiotics but I felt horrible on them--long story short I have myasthenia gravis which worsened the symptoms and made me go to ER!

I then went on lots of anti-microbials and supplements as well as strict diet for the last 2yrs and had some improvement but wasnt l! Ive had SIBO for 3yrs, which he has treated me for, so why not provide the PIN!!!

Therefore I sucked it up and went ahead and ordered with this fine company.

I found that most sites as well as my GI doc uses Integrative Elemental Formula. I didnt know which one to use, regular or dextrose free, but with research I decided on dextrose free, being that I have had oral thrush problems over the years and believe I have systemic candida; Therefore I believe the less sugar the better;

Oh and Im also adding MCT oil to it to help with glycemic index--and you then use less powder to equal the same calorie intake. Got this info from the Integrative PDF Protocol. I bought one bag to make sure I would tolerate the drink without having any adverse reactions because I seem to have sensitivities to a lot of things after a bone marrow transplant, 3yrs of chemo and YEARS of antibiotics.
I drank one shake for lunch calories for 2 days without problem. And therefore Im ordering additional bags.
ProsVery good in taste and that's the dextrose free one! Ive read that some find it horrible--not sure who is posting that but its basically a slightly sweet, watery drink--I find it refreshing, with crushed ice and drink it over an hour; and so far I havent had bloating or issues--but I havent done a full day/wk yet. I dont believe I will and this is just the beginning of my healing! Oh and it doesnt have a bunch of junk in it! Its easy to make, whether one wants to make a daily batch or 6 batches or 2 batches for the day which is what I plan on doing--it says to drink 6x/day; I appreciate this company selling the product without a prescription as well as redeemable points. Wish i could apply the points to current order--but understand why.
ConsExpensive! On disability for 15yrs which doesnt help income; i realize that the ED may be the same cost as food so that may be a plus or even! I do fear hunger or craving so I made a 2 wk sign and will cross off the dates to help me thru. THE BIGGIE-- my GI doc works with another company and wont give me the PIN to get the discount until I see him Oct. 30th! Perhaps a medical record would help with discount. Bottomline, there really arent any cons, just cost and researching.

Taste is good
This is the first time I've used an Elemental diet for Sibo. I've been taking it for 11 days. The studies online state that you need to use it for 22 days to fully get rid of Sibo (88% success rate). This is the only food I have (will) be using during this time. I feel so much better. Like 100% better. The taste is good. Blends really easy. The package includes a scoop. Shipping was fast.
ProsFast shipping Easy to order Taste is good Includes scoop Blends smooth
