Vaccines and Vitamin C
Frequently I write a blog about vaccines and simple steps you can take to minimize any negative reactions. This is generally really simple but getting this information out to the general public has proven next to impossible. So I keep trying just in case a few people are able to take these steps.
General Vaccine Advice
C. Alan Clemetson, M.D. wrote a nice response to articles in the British Medical Journal talking of vaccine reactions. I will list basic points here but you should read this relatively short article. Hear the Silence
Some infants have reactions to vaccine that are sometimes serious.
Studies around the world have shown vitamin C to have significant protective effects.
Vitamin C reduces reactions to injections in lab animals, even those that produce their own vitamin C.
Dr. Kalokerinos did extensive work with aboriginal children in Australia.
These studies in Australia showed powerful protective effects. Side note: much of the initial information I have about vitamin C comes from meeting and talking with Dr. Kalokerinos and Dr. Dettman when I worked at the Institute for Medical Research in San Jose about 1976.
Vitamin C deficiency causes capillary fragility because of the accumulation of histamines in the blood.
Vitamin C is necessary to convert histamine to aspartic acid that the body can remove.
Dr. Clemetson’s recommendations???
-Vaccines postponed when an infant is premature or is ailing in any way including a common cold.
-Consideration given to reducing the number of vaccines at any one time.
-That 500 mg of vitamin C powder in fruit juice will be given to infants to drink before their vaccinations. (More vitamin C can be given by intramuscular injection, if the infant develops a high-pitched cry, a febrile illness, or has a convulsion.)
COVID
Early in COVID research, experiments showed that vitamin C can be used as a management tool. The following is a quote from that abstract.
The use of high dose of intravenous vitamin C for management of COVID-19 in China and the United Stated has shown promising results. There were no reported adverse reactions with the short-term use of high dose of vitamin C. Given the fact that vitamin C is cheap, available and safe drug with beneficial effects in management of viral infections and critically ill patients reported in previous clinical trials, it is sensible to add it to COVID-19 management protocol particularly if the current ongoing clinical trials testing the effect of vitamin C in management of COVID-19 show positive results.
