Hi Dr. Dan,
Within the products that contain D3 and K2 there is quite a variation in the proportion of D3 to K2. Is there an ideal ration of D3 to K2?
In general we recommend a blood test to determine how much vitamin D you need. We like to see your levels between 60 and 80. We have seen people take 10,000 a day and still can't get up to those levels. So how much you need will be variable. We can run those blood test for you as we can order tests for people in CA and NV. How much K you need will depend on different factors. People over 50 need more than younger folks and people with cardiovascular disease tend to need more too. A general rule is 100-200 mcg for those over 50 and at least 200 mcg if you have some CVD too. To sum this up, we generally recommend 5000 IU D a day until you get better information from a blood test and maybe 150 mcg vitamin K just be get some in there.
