Brain Health Short Version

I have written several blogs about Alzheimer's and dementia. I will add some links at the end to make it easier for you to find those and read up in more detail.

Most Brief of Summaries

The purpose of this blog is to list the basics without much explanation as a way of a brief summary.

Gluten, Gluten, Gluten

It is highly probable that diet is playing a role in your brain’s demise. A strict gluten-free diet has been a lifesaver for many. We can test that with a Cyrex Labs test (Array 3).

Most Basic Supplements

Supplements can also be important. The following is a list of what we recommend at the current time for general brain support.

Perque Activate B12 Guard 2000 mcg Usually 1 tablet 3x/week

Percepta by Cognitive Clarity1-2 capsules per day

BetterGenix NAC1-2 capsules per day

Nordic Naturals ProOmega D1-2 capsules per day

Brains tend to do better with vitamin B12 levels in the high normal range. We have found better results with hydroxy B12 instead of the more common and cheaper methyl B12 that is in just about every multi-vitamin including the cheap ones.

Percepta will help keep your brain working too. I would start with 1 a day for 5 days, take 5 days off, then 5 days on again. Do this for about a month. I recommend this to more gradually change your brain as too much too fast might make you feel a little stupid for a couple of weeks and most of us don’t want to go through that. After the first month, begin adding the second capsule in the same fashion, that is 1 capsule each day and then add the second one for 5 days and then only one for 5 days etc. After you are adapted to two capsules per day, you will probably find after several months that you can go back to one a day and just keep track of your brain symptoms and adjust the dose accordingly.

The NAC is to help your body produce glutathione which is the most essential detox agent of your body. This will help pull heavy metals like lead and mercury out of your body and brain. Start with one a day for two weeks and then go to two a day from then on. I take 4 a day, two in the a.m. and two in the afternoon, for example.

The last supplement listed in the ProOmega D. This is EPA/DHA and vitamin D3. Too many reasons to add this to list here. Just know that the cell membranes need these quality, essential fatty acids to do their job.
